1. On focus
Warren Buffett’s secret to success is intense focus — instead of doing more, he does less.
He once told his pilot that in order to reach his goals, he needed to do three things.
The first was to write down his 25 top goals, and then circle the top 5 most important.
Then, separate the top 5 into their own list — and goals 6-25 get put on a ‘not to do’ list.
Ignore everything on the ‘not to do’ list until you’ve achieved your top 5.
The article. Though the above summarizes it well.
2. An experience to boost your skills
I think that for young ambitious people, doing some kind of job or project that involves lots of sales (and lots of feedback/metrics/data points on how well you’re selling) is a great idea. Could even be volunteering, e.g. as a door to door fundraiser.
Then combine your job with a bunch of resources on how to be great at sales (post coming soon).
3. On fundraising
4. On a good life
Great :)
5. On startup success and what to focus on
6. On valuable skills
The Desirability of Storytellers: Among Filipino hunter-gatherers, storytelling is valued more than any other skill, and the best storytellers have the most children.
Heh! Storytelling seems to be a generally useful skill. Probably more of a “1 to n” skill than a “0 to 1” skill (it’s not required for success, IMO, but if you’re starting to be successful and then you learn it, you’ll be better able to grow your success).
